Product Specific Information

  • 0.5 µg/mL of MA5-45201 detects 50 ng purified alpha B crystallin by colorimetric immunoblot using Goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as secondary antibody.
  • Detects approximately 20 kDa (predicted molecular weight ≈ 21 kDa).
  • No cross-reactivity with alpha A-crystallin, beta L-crystallin, beta H-crystallin, gamma-crystallin, HSP25, HSP27, or HSP47 proteins.

Target Information

Lens proteins are composed primarily of crystallins (≈95%), which maintain the proper refractive index of the lens. The mammalian lens includes three major classes: alpha, beta, and gamma crystallins.

  • Alpha-crystallin: largest, composed of alpha-A and alpha-B subunits; accounts for 40% of total lens protein.
  • Functions as a molecular chaperone, preventing aggregation and potential cataract formation.
  • Phosphorylation may regulate structural and stress response functions.
  • Alpha-B crystallin accumulation is associated with Alexander’s disease.
