Product Specific Information
0.5 µg/mL of MA5-45199 was sufficient for detection of 50 ng purified alpha B crystallin by colorimetric immunoblot analysis using Goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as the secondary antibody.
Detects approximately 20 kDa (predicted molecular weight ~21 kDa).
Does not cross-react with alpha A-crystallin, beta L-crystallin, beta H-crystallin, gamma-crystallin, HSP25, HSP27, or HSP47 proteins.
Target Information
Lens proteins consist almost entirely of crystallins (about 95%), which are also found in vertebrate skeletal muscle tissue.
Crystallins maintain the proper refractive index of the lens and include three major classes: alpha, beta, and gamma.
Alpha-crystallin, the largest, is composed of alpha-A and alpha-B gene products and makes up about 40% of total lens protein.
It also functions as a molecular chaperone, preventing aggregate formation that can lead to cataracts.
Alpha-B crystallin has been linked to Alexander’s disease, where it accumulates in brain cells.
