Target Information
EPX mediates tyrosine nitration of secondary granule proteins in mature resting eosinophils.
It shows inhibitory activity toward Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv by inducing bacterial fragmentation and lysis.
Allelic variants in EPX are associated with Japanese cedar pollinosis, a type I allergic disease causing seasonal rhinitis and conjunctival symptoms.
Defects in EPX cause eosinophil peroxidase deficiency (EPD), an autosomal recessive defect with nuclear hypersegmentation, hypogranulation, and negative peroxidase staining.
Subcellular Location: Cytoplasmic granule.
