Smooth Muscle Actin은 세포 운동성, 구조 및 무결성에 관여하는 고도로 보존된 단백질인 actin 패밀리에 속합니다. 알파, 베타, 감마 아형이 존재하며, 알파-actin은 수축성 장치의 주요 구성 요소입니다. Smooth muscle actin은 평활근 혈관벽, 장벽, 자궁근층, 유방 및 타액선의 근상피세포에서 발견됩니다.
Actin은 세포골격의 중요한 구성 요소로서, myosin과 상호작용하여 근육 수축, 세포 이동 및 세포분열을 돕습니다. Smooth muscle actin 유전자 결함은 가족성 흉부 대동맥류(type 6)와 관련이 있습니다. 또한, 상처 치유나 섬유수축성 질환 등 병리적 상황에서 fibroblast 세포의 스트레스 섬유에서도 발현됩니다.
