Product Specific Information
This antibody recognizes a phosphorylated epitope on the heavy neurofilament protein (210 kDa intracellular antigen) of various species. Antibodies to the various neurofilament subunits are valuable neuronal cell type markers because these proteins are abundant in the nervous system, expressed only in neurons, and biochemically very stable.
Target Information
Neurofilaments are intermediate filament proteins found specifically in neurons, composed mainly of three major proteins: NF-L, NF-M, and NF-H. The expression of these neuronal intermediate filament proteins is tissue-specific and developmentally regulated. NF-H plays a key role in maintaining neuronal caliber and is implicated in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
