Target Information
SHBG (Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin) is a steroid-binding plasma protein secreted by the liver, regulating steroid hormone responses. It transports androgens and estrogens in the blood as a dimer of identical monomers.
Low plasma SHBG levels are linked to obesity, metabolic syndrome, and type 2 diabetes. Gene polymorphisms are associated with polycystic ovary syndrome and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
