CYP1B1은 세포 내 소포체에 위치한 543 아미노산 단백질로, cytochrome P450 초가족에 속하는 monooxygenase 효소입니다. 이 효소는 약물 대사 및 콜레스테롤, 스테로이드, 기타 지질의 합성에 관여하며, 다환 방향족 탄화수소 및 17β-에스트라디올과 같은 전발암물질의 대사에도 중요한 역할을 합니다. 또한 안구 성장 및 분화에 관련된 물질의 대사에 관여하여 안구 발달에 중요한 역할을 하며, 변이된 단백질은 선천성 녹내장의 원인이 될 수 있습니다.
