CIS 단백질은 SH2 도메인과 SOCS 박스 도메인을 포함하며, cytokine-induced STAT inhibitor(CIS) 또는 suppressor of cytokine signaling(SOCS) 계열에 속합니다. 이 단백질들은 사이토카인 신호 전달의 음성 조절자로 알려져 있으며, IL2, IL3, GM-CSF, EPO 등에 의해 조혈세포에서 발현이 유도됩니다. 또한, 프로테아좀 매개 분해를 통해 적혈구 생성인자 수용체의 불활성화에 관여하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다. 다양한 전사 변이체가 존재합니다.
