EDG-3는 lysophospholipid를 리간드로 하는 G-단백질 결합 수용체(GPCR) 계열에 속합니다. EDG-3의 리간드는 sphingosine-1-phosphate이며, EDG 수용체 패밀리는 총 8종이 알려져 있습니다. 이들은 세포 증식 유도, 분화 및 생존 조절, 세포사 억제 등 성장 관련 기능에 관여하며, 수축, 분비, 부착 및 화학주성 등 세포 골격 의존성 반응을 매개합니다. 또한 다양한 G 단백질과 결합하여 ras, MAP kinase, rho, phospholipase C, protein tyrosine kinase 등의 신호 경로를 활성화합니다. EDG-3는 심혈관계, 백혈구 포함 조직 등 여러 조직에서 발현됩니다.
