Target Information
Interleukin 12A (IL-12A) is a signaling cytokine in the Interleukin-6 protein superfamily. The IL-12A alpha chain precursor is a 35-kDa subunit of the IL-12 heterodimer and exhibits a broad range of biological activities.
IL-12A acts as a growth factor for activated T and NK cells, enhances NK/lymphokine-activated killer cell activity, and stimulates IFN-γ production by resting PBMCs. It plays a role in the differentiation of Th1 and Th2 cells and positively regulates Stat4 phosphorylation.
IL-12A signaling in innate immunity requires nitric oxide synthase 2A. Together with EBI3, IL-12A forms IL-35, a heterodimeric cytokine produced by regulatory T cells, essential for maximal suppressive activity.
