Target Information
Aquaporins are a family of water-selective membrane channels. Aquaporin 9 (AQP9) belongs to the aquaglyceroporin subset, allowing passage of various noncharged solutes and enhancing urea transport and osmotic water permeability. It may facilitate glycerol uptake in hepatic tissue and play roles in leukocyte functions such as immune response and bactericidal activity. Alternate splicing leads to multiple transcript variants.
