Target Information
CACNA1C encodes the alpha-1 subunit of a voltage-dependent calcium channel. These channels mediate the influx of calcium ions into the cell upon membrane depolarization.
The alpha-1 subunit forms the ion-conducting pore and contains 24 transmembrane segments. The full calcium channel complex includes alpha-1, alpha-2/delta, beta, and gamma subunits in a 1:1:1:1 ratio.
Multiple isoforms exist, generated by different genes or alternative splicing. The CACNA1C protein binds to and is inhibited by dihydropyridine.
