Target Information
CACNA1C encodes an alpha-1 subunit of a voltage-dependent calcium channel. These channels mediate calcium ion influx upon membrane polarization. The alpha-1 subunit, composed of 24 transmembrane segments, forms the pore through which ions pass. The calcium channel complex includes alpha-1, alpha-2/delta, beta, and gamma subunits in a 1:1:1:1 ratio. Multiple isoforms arise from different genes or alternative splicing. The CACNA1C protein binds to and is inhibited by dihydropyridine. Alternative splicing results in various transcript variants encoding distinct proteins.
