Product Specific Information

The 90 monoclonal antibody reacts with the mouse CD38 molecule (~42 kDa type II transmembrane protein). CD38 is expressed at progressively higher levels on B cells during differentiation and down-regulated on germinal center B cells and mature plasma cells. It is also found on thymocytes, mature T cells, and NK cells.

Crosslinking of CD38 induces B-cell proliferation, enhanced by IL-4 and LPS. CD38 acts as a counter-receptor for CD31 and functions as an ectoenzyme with cyclase and hydrolase activity, playing roles in lymphocyte activation and differentiation.

Target Information

CD38 (NAD⁺ glycohydrolase) is a type II transmembrane glycoprotein involved in activation, proliferation, and differentiation of lymphocytes, and apoptosis of progenitor cells. It serves as a multi-catalytic ectoenzyme (ADP-ribosyl cyclase, cyclic ADP-ribose hydrolase, NAD⁺ glycohydrolase) and cell surface receptor.

Antibodies to CD38 are useful for:

• Subtyping lymphomas and leukemias
• Detecting plasma cells (myeloma identification)
• Marking activated B and T cells

CD38 is expressed at high levels in pancreas, liver, kidney, malignant lymphoma, and neuroblastoma. Associated diseases include chronic lymphocytic leukemia and Richter’s Syndrome.
