• Store vial at 4°C prior to restoration.
• For extended storage, aliquot and freeze at -20°C or below. Avoid freeze/thaw cycles.
• Centrifuge if not clear after standing at room temperature.
• Stable for several weeks at 4°C as undiluted liquid; dilute only before immediate use.
• Heated to 56°C for 30 minutes. IgG preparation of whole rabbit serum purified by DEAE fractionation.
• Directed against mature 17 kDa human IL-1β; also detects primate IL-1β but not IL-1α.
• In ELISA, recognizes ~10% of non-denatured 31 kDa precursor IL-1β but primarily detects mature 17 kDa form.
• In immunoblots, denatured 31 kDa precursor IL-1β appears as 35 kDa band due to unfolding and exposure of epitopes.
• Detects 17 kDa band in supernatants and 35 kDa precursor band in lysates.

Target Information

Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) is a proinflammatory cytokine expressed by monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. It is synthesized as a 31 kDa inactive pro-form and cleaved into a 17 kDa active form via inflammasome activation and caspase-1 processing. IL-1β lacks a classical secretion signal and is released through an alternate mechanism. It signals through IL-1RI and IL-1RII receptors shared with IL-1α. IL-1β activity is modulated by IL-1 Receptor Antagonist (IL-1RA). Elevated IL-1β levels are linked to chronic inflammatory conditions, and IL-1β neutralizing antibodies have therapeutic potential.
