Prohibitin은 진화적으로 보존된 유전자에서 유래하며, 세포 증식의 음성 조절자로 작용하고 종양 억제 인자로 추정됩니다. PHB 유전자의 돌연변이는 산발적 유방암과 관련이 있으며, 두 가지 형태의 전사체를 발현합니다. 긴 3' untranslated region을 가진 전사체는 증식 조직 및 세포에서 높은 수준으로 발현되며, 이 영역이 전사 조절 RNA로 작용할 가능성이 있습니다.
