Product Specific Information

  • This antibody does not react with Rat.
  • Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
  • Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.

Target Information

Calnexin (also known as IP90, p88, p90) is an approximately 90 kDa integral membrane protein of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER).
ER-resident proteins act as molecular chaperones, aiding proper folding and assembly of polypeptides.
Calnexin associates with MHC class I heavy chains, partial T cell receptor complexes, and B cell membrane immunoglobulin, but not with completed receptor complexes.
It functions as a chaperone retaining incompletely or improperly folded proteins in the ER.

Soluble ER proteins such as GRP78, GRP94, and protein disulfide isomerase have a KDEL sequence at the carboxy-terminus for ER retention.
Integral membrane ER proteins like calnexin lack KDEL but contain positively charged cytosolic residues ensuring ER retention.
