Target Information

The ABCB1 gene encodes a membrane-associated protein belonging to the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily.
These proteins transport various molecules across cellular membranes and are divided into seven subfamilies: ABC1, MDR/TAP, MRP, ALD, OABP, GCN20, and White.
ABCB1 is part of the MDR/TAP subfamily, which is associated with multidrug resistance.
This protein functions as an ATP-dependent efflux pump for xenobiotic compounds, contributing to decreased drug accumulation in resistant cells and mediating resistance to anticancer drugs.
It also acts as a transporter in the blood-brain barrier.
