Target Information

The membrane-associated protein encoded by the ABCB1 gene belongs to the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily. These proteins transport various molecules across cellular membranes and are divided into seven subfamilies (ABC1, MDR/TAP, MRP, ALD, OABP, GCN20, White).
ABCB1 is a member of the MDR/TAP subfamily, involved in multidrug resistance. It functions as an ATP-dependent drug efflux pump with broad substrate specificity, reducing drug accumulation in resistant cells and contributing to anticancer drug resistance. Additionally, it acts as a transporter in the blood-brain barrier.
