Target Information
Claudin-8 belongs to the claudin family of integral membrane proteins. Claudins are responsible for the formation of tight junction strands, and are connected with the actin cytoskeleton mediated by ZO-1. Claudin-8 is a tight junction protein expressed in several distal nephron segments, suggesting that it may play a role as a paracellular cation barrier protein. It is also expressed in the inner ear and in the umbrella cell tight junctions of the bladder epithelium.
