Target Information
Catalase is a homotetrameric heme-containing enzyme present within the matrix of all peroxisomes. It catalyzes the dismutation of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen. Human catalase has the last four amino acids (-KANL) at the C-terminus for peroxisome targeting. The monomer of human catalase is 61.3 kDa. Catalase plays roles in inflammation, mutagenesis, apoptosis prevention, and tumor stimulation. Loss of catalase results in acatalasemia (Takahara’s disease).
