Target Information
HSP70 is a heat shock protein expressed in response to various biological stresses, including high temperatures. The HSP70 family includes highly conserved proteins such as HSP70, HSP90, and HSP100.
Human HSP70 family members include:
- HSP70: Inducible in all organisms and constitutively expressed in primate cells
- HSP72: 72 kDa protein induced exclusively under stress conditions
- HSC70: Constitutively expressed 72 kDa protein involved in clathrin-coated vesicle uncoating
- GRP78 (BiP): 78 kDa glucose-regulated protein localized in the endoplasmic reticulum
- p75 (HSP75): 75 kDa mitochondrial protein
HSP70 is encoded by an intronless gene and helps stabilize existing proteins against aggregation and assists in folding newly translated proteins. It also participates in the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway via interaction with AU-rich element RNA-binding protein 1. The HSP70 gene resides in the MHC class III region alongside two related genes encoding similar proteins.
