Target Information
Calcitonin is a 32 amino acid peptide localized in C cells of the thyroid. It serves as a marker for C cell proliferative abnormalities ranging from hyperplasia to invasive tumors. In medullary thyroid carcinoma, calcitonin staining shows a fine granular cytoplasmic pattern, and amyloid deposits may exhibit variable calcitonin activity.
