Target Information
Antizyme inhibitor (AZIN1) is a protein that positively regulates ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) activity and polyamine uptake.
AZIN1 acts as an enzymatically inactive ODC homolog that counteracts the negative effects of ODC antizymes (OAZ1, OAZ2, OAZ3) by competing with ODC for antizyme binding.
This inhibition prevents antizyme-dependent ODC degradation and releases ODC monomers from inactive complexes, restoring active ODC homodimers and polyamine production.
