This antibody reacts specifically with 5-bromouridine (BrU) and does not cross-react with EdU.
Target Information
Bromodeoxyuridine (5-bromo-2-deoxyuridine, BrdU) is a synthetic nucleoside and an analogue of thymidine. BrdU is widely used to detect proliferating cells in living tissues. It incorporates into newly synthesized DNA of replicating cells during the S phase, substituting for thymidine during DNA replication. Antibodies specific for BrdU can then detect incorporated BrdU, indicating actively replicating cells. Detection requires DNA denaturation, typically by acid or heat treatment.
