Product Specific Information
This antibody specifically recognizes the 28 to 30 kDa small subunit of Calpain 1 and Calpain 2 (μ-calpain and m-calpain). It recognizes both native and denatured protein in ELISA, Western Blot, and Immunoprecipitation assays.
Target Information
The calpains are calcium-dependent cysteine proteases widely expressed in mammalian systems. Both m-calpain (calpain II) and μ-calpain (calpain I) consist of an 80 kDa catalytic subunit and a 30 kDa regulatory subunit. The 30 kDa subunit is common to both enzymes, while the catalytic subunits differ in their calcium requirements: m-calpain requires millimolar (mM) levels of Ca²⁺, whereas μ-calpain is active at micromolar (µM) concentrations. In addition to these ubiquitous forms, tissue-specific calpains have been identified. Calpains play multiple physiological roles, and research on their functions continues to evolve.
