Target Information
This gene encodes a member of a subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs). These RNA-binding proteins form complexes with heterogeneous nuclear RNA and are associated with pre-mRNAs in the nucleus, influencing pre-mRNA processing and mRNA metabolism and transport.
While most hnRNPs reside in the nucleus, some shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm. The hnRNP proteins have distinct nucleic acid binding properties. The encoded protein contains three quasi-RRM domains that bind RNA and is similar to HNRPF. This gene may be associated with hereditary lymphedema type I. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been reported.
