Target Information
The CEACAM8 gene encodes a member of the carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) family, part of the immunoglobulin superfamily. The CEA family includes CEA cell adhesion molecules and pregnancy-specific glycoproteins, located on chromosome 19. CEACAM8 was first identified in liver bile ducts and later found on leukocytes, epithelial, and endothelial cells. It functions as a cell adhesion molecule with roles in tissue differentiation, angiogenesis, apoptosis, tumor suppression, metastasis, and immune response modulation. Multiple transcript variants exist, though not all are fully characterized.
