Target Information
MYLK (MLCK) is a serine/threonine kinase that phosphorylates myosin regulatory light chains, enabling contractile activity through myosin-actin interaction. It regulates smooth muscle contraction, vascular permeability, and tissue edema formation. In the nervous system, MLCK influences astrocytic process growth and neurotransmitter release. It also plays a role in fibroblast apoptosis signaling. Various isoforms, including smooth muscle and non-muscle types, are expressed across adult and fetal tissues. The Telokin isoform binds calmodulin and is widely distributed. MLCK activity may be down-regulated by phosphorylation and the protein includes one fibronectin type III domain and nine immunoglobulin-like C2-type domains.
