Target Information
Fibronectin is a disulfide-bonded dimer with a molecular weight range of 230–250 kDa. In the extracellular matrix of connective tissues and vessels, fibronectin exists as an insoluble protein extensively cross-linked by interchain disulfide bonds forming high molecular mass polymers. It is most abundant during embryonic development and tissue remodeling and is also present as a soluble plasma protein.
Fibronectin consists of repeating modules forming domains that interact with fibronectin itself, matrix components (e.g., collagen, heparin), and cell receptors (e.g., integrins). It plays key roles in cell adhesion and migration processes including embryogenesis, wound healing, blood coagulation, host defense, and metastasis. Increased fibronectin expression is observed in non-small cell lung carcinoma, enhancing tumorigenicity and resistance to apoptosis induced by chemotherapeutic agents. The fibronectin gene undergoes alternative splicing, potentially producing up to 20 transcript variants.
