Target Information
Serum response factor (SRF) is a transcription factor that binds the serum response element (SRE), mediating the transient response of many cellular genes to growth stimulation. SRF regulates several muscle genes in response to growth factors and recruits accessory myogenic factors to activate these genes. It is essential for vertebrate mesoderm formation and cardiovascular system development. Myocardin and myocardin-related transcription factors (MRTF-A, MRTF-B) interact with SRF to stimulate its transcriptional activity, with MRTF-B playing a key role in skeletal myogenic differentiation.
