Target Information
Serum response factor (SRF) is a transcription factor that binds the serum response element (SRE), mediating gene responses to growth stimulation. SRF regulates several muscle genes and recruits accessory myogenic factors for activation. It is essential for mesoderm formation and cardiovascular development. Myocardin, together with SRF, activates cardiac muscle promoters, while MRTF-A and MRTF-B enhance SRF transcriptional activity. MRTF-B plays a critical role in skeletal myogenic differentiation.
