Target Information
Ataxia-telangiectasia Mutated (ATM) is a member of the PI3/PI4 kinase family.
ATM plays a critical role in the repair of double-stranded DNA breaks caused by ionizing radiation and other mutagens.
It phosphorylates key regulators such as P53, Mdm2, BRCA1, and SMC1, influencing cell cycle control, apoptosis, and DNA damage response.
ATM is autophosphorylated upon activation by DNA damage, initiating a cascade of kinase reactions that regulate cellular stress responses.
Mutations in ATM are associated with ataxia-telangiectasia, a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by neurodegeneration, immunodeficiency, and increased cancer risk.
