Product Specific Information

The EBVCS2 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD23, a 45 kDa type II transmembrane glycoprotein. CD23 is expressed on mature B cells, mantle zone B cells, follicular dendritic cells, and at low levels on T cells, NK cells, Langerhans cells, and platelets. Expression of CD23 is upregulated upon B cell activation, and soluble forms of the antigen are biologically active.

CD23 serves as a low-affinity receptor for IgE and plays a role in IgE response regulation and B cell activation. CD21 and the α subunit of CD11b/CD11c bind to CD23.

• Applications Tested: Pre-titrated and tested by flow cytometry using normal human peripheral blood cells. Recommended usage is 5 µL (0.25 µg) per test (100 µL final volume, 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test).

Target Information

CD23 is a 45 kDa glycoprotein present on a subpopulation of peripheral blood and tonsil B cells, and strongly expressed on EBV-transformed B lymphoblasts. It is identical to the low-affinity IgE receptor found on B cells. CD23 expression has been detected in neoplastic cells from chronic lymphocytic leukemia and certain lymphomas. Functionally, CD23 is involved in B cell growth, differentiation, and IgE production. Its soluble form acts as a potent mitogenic factor. Diseases associated with CD23 dysfunction include chronic conjunctivitis and chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
