Product Specific Information

MA3-745 detects human, rat, and mouse vimentin and has been successfully used in HELA-S3, HEK-293, rat brain, and rat kidney cells.
It has been validated in Western blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence applications.
By Western blot, this antibody detects an approximately 57 kDa protein representing vimentin from HELA-S3 cells.
The immunogen used was the human rhabdosarcoma cell line JR1.


Target Information

Vimentin is a developmentally regulated intermediate filament protein (IFP) found in cells of mesenchymal origin.
It is involved in intracellular protein transport between the nucleus and plasma membrane.
Unlike other IFPs, vimentin is expressed with desmin during early cellular development and later replaced by tissue-specific IFPs.
Vimentin plays a role in steroid synthesis by acting as a storage network for cholesterol-containing lipid droplets.
Phosphorylation of vimentin leads to intermediate filament breakdown and cytoskeletal reorganization, facilitating cholesterol transport to mitochondria and increasing steroid synthesis.
