Target Information
Integrins are key extracellular matrix (ECM) receptor proteins located on cell surfaces. They are heterodimers composed of an alpha and a beta transmembrane glycoprotein subunit. About 22 different integrins (various alpha/beta combinations) are found in nature.
Integrins are abundant on the cell surface and bind ligands with low individual affinity, requiring clustering for effective ECM binding. They interact with multiple ligands, including laminin. Each integrin contains a large N-terminal extracellular domain for ECM binding and a small C-terminal cytoplasmic domain involved in cytoskeletal interactions and signal transduction.
