PCNA는 CDK inhibitor p21, endonucleases Fen1 및 XPG, DNA cytosine 5-methyltransferase (MCMT)와 결합합니다.
세포 증식 상태를 평가하는 마커로 유용하며, 종양 조직의 예후 판단에도 활용됩니다.
PCNA는 G1 및 S phase에서 발현되며, 핵 내에서 DNA polymerase delta의 보조 인자로 작용합니다.
DNA 손상 시 RAD6 의존적 수선 경로에 관여하며, 유비퀴틴화되어 기능 조절을 받습니다.
PCNA 유전자는 두 가지 전사 변형체를 가지며, 4번 및 X 염색체에 위유전자가 존재합니다.
