Product Specific Information

This antibody recognizes MUC1, a tumor-associated antigen expressed in more than 90% of ovarian carcinomas. The antigen is a high molecular weight (80,000–200,000) glycoprotein.

Target Information

MUC1 (Mucin 1, Episialin, MAM-6, CA 15-3, PEM, EMA) is a large cell surface mucin glycoprotein expressed by most glandular and ductal epithelial cells and some hematopoietic cell lineages.
It is a transmembrane glycoprotein with a large mucin-like extracellular domain that matures through proteolysis and glycosylation steps.
MUC1 is highly polymorphic, with alleles encoding different numbers of tandem repeats (30–90), resulting in variable molecular weights.
It is abundantly expressed in >90% of breast carcinomas and metastases.
Overexpression, aberrant localization, and altered glycosylation of MUC1 are associated with carcinomas.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist, with some full-length forms determined.
