Specificity: This antibody binds to the alpha 4 subunit of alpha-4Beta1 (also known as very late antigen 4 [VLA-4] or CD49d-CD29) and alpha-4Beta7 integrin.
Target Information
Natalizumab is a recombinant, humanized monoclonal antibody that binds to alpha4beta1 integrin and blocks its interaction with vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1).
It is used in research related to relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis and Crohn’s disease.
Natalizumab was the first targeted therapy shown to block lymphocyte entry into the CNS, thereby preventing acute demyelinating relapses.
