Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is >95% (by SDS-PAGE).
Target Information
Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal proteins are encoded by nuclear genes and contribute to protein synthesis within the mitochondrion. Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit. They have approximately 75% protein to rRNA composition, unlike prokaryotic ribosomes where this ratio is reversed. Mammalian mitoribosomes lack the 5S rRNA found in prokaryotic ribosomes. The MRPS16 gene encodes a 28S subunit protein belonging to the ribosomal protein S16P family, highly conserved between mammalian and yeast mitochondria. Three pseudogenes (8q21.3, 20q13.32, 22q12-q13.1) have been described for this gene.
