이 질환은 유전자의 삼핵산 반복(CAG/CAA)이 7–35회에서 49–93회로 확장됨에 따라 발생합니다.
해당 단백질은 세린 반복 및 산성/염기성 아미노산이 교대로 배열된 영역, 그리고 가변적인 글루타민 반복을 포함합니다.
대체 스플라이싱으로 인해 동일한 단백질을 암호화하는 두 가지 전사 변이가 생성됩니다.
