Target Information
Protein: FOXRED2 (also known as ERFAD)
Function: Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) luminal flavoprotein involved in ER-associated degradation (ERAD). It binds non-native proteins in the ER and targets them to the ubiquitination machinery for degradation. Knockdown of FOXRED2 delays degradation of ERAD model substrates and decreases polyubiquitinated protein levels.
Clinical relevance: Related to FOXRED1, which is implicated in mitochondrial complex I deficiency (MT-C1D), suggesting FOXRED2 may also play a role in this condition.
