Target Information
FOXRED2 (also known as ERFAD)
FOXRED2 is an endoplasmic reticulum (ER) luminal flavoprotein that may function in ER-associated degradation (ERAD). It is proposed to bind non-native proteins in the ER and target them to the ubiquitination machinery for degradation. Knockdown of FOXRED2 delays degradation of ERAD model substrate ribophorin 332 and decreases overall polyubiquitinated protein levels.
Defects in the related protein FOXRED1 cause mitochondrial complex I deficiency (MT-C1D), suggesting FOXRED2 may also play a role in this process.
