The monoclonal antibody R3 recognizes human CD93, also known as C1qRp.
CD93 is a glycoprotein that binds to complement subunit C1q, mannose-binding lectin, and pulmonary surfactant protein A, and is implicated in the clearance of apoptotic cells. Expression is confined to myeloid cells, with higher levels on monocytes than neutrophils, eosinophils, platelets, and endothelial cells. Expression on dendritic cells decreases upon maturation.

CD93 also defines an early bone marrow stem cell population of hematopoietic and hepatic precursors.
The R3 antibody exhibits activating functions (enhancing phagocytosis when immobilized) and inhibitory functions (when soluble). CD93 can be shed from the cell surface; this soluble form can be detected by ELISA using R3 as the detection antibody and R139 as the capture antibody. The epitope for R3 lies in the CRD domain.

Applications Tested: Pre-titrated and validated for flow cytometric analysis of normal human peripheral blood cells. Recommended use: 5 µL (0.125 µg) per test (100 µL final volume). Cell number range: 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test.

Target Information

The protein encoded by this gene is a cell-surface glycoprotein and type I membrane protein originally identified as a myeloid cell-specific marker. It is involved in intercellular adhesion and apoptotic cell clearance. The cytoplasmic tail interacts with moesin, linking transmembrane proteins to the cytoskeleton and participating in cytoskeletal remodeling.
