Target Information
Rap1GAP specifically stimulates the GTP hydrolytic activity of the monomeric G protein Rap1. Interaction between G alpha z (Gi family) and Rap1GAP blocks regulators of G protein signaling and attenuates inhibition of adenylyl cyclase. Rap1GAP is expressed in brain, kidney, and pancreas, acting as a signal integrator for Gz and Rap1 signaling. A novel isoform, Rap1GAPII, binds specifically to G alpha z and translocates upon M2 Muscarinic receptor stimulation, leading to ERK/MAPK activation.
