Target Information
Herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 (HSV-1 and HSV-2), also known as Human herpes virus 1 and 2 (HHV-1 and HHV-2), are highly contagious human pathogens.
HSV-1 typically causes cold sores, while HSV-2 is associated with most genital herpes infections.
The virion consists of a large double-stranded linear DNA genome enclosed within a capsid and surrounded by a viral envelope.
HSV strains contain over 70 open reading frames (ORFs) and have been linked to Alzheimer’s disease.
