Product Specific Information

5 µg of MA5-45548 was sufficient for immunoprecipitation of EAAC1 from 50 µg of rat brain lysate. Detects approximately 60 kDa.
This antibody was formerly sold as clone S180-41.

Target Information

L-glutamate is the major excitatory neurotransmitter in mammalian central nervous systems. Excess glutamate is removed by ion-coupled glutamate transporters to prevent excitotoxicity. Four transporters have been identified: GLAST-1, GLT-1, EAAC-1, and EAAT-4.
EAAC-1 is expressed in the CNS, kidney, and small intestine. It features eight membrane-spanning alpha-helices and a unique loop-pore structure similar to ion channels, as well as a highly amphipathic helix forming a hydrophilic membrane pathway.
Mice with homozygous deletions of EAAC-1 show dicarboxylic aminoaciduria and reduced locomotor activity without neurodegeneration over 12 months.
