Interleukin 12A (IL-12A) is a cytokine belonging to the Interleukin-6 protein superfamily and serves as the 35-kDa alpha subunit of the IL-12 heterodimer.
IL-12A functions as a growth factor for activated T and NK cells, enhances NK/LAK cell activity, and stimulates IFN-γ production.
It promotes differentiation of Th1 and Th2 cells and regulates tyrosine phosphorylation of Stat4 protein.
IL-12A, together with EBI3, forms interleukin-35 (IL-35), a cytokine produced by regulatory T cells essential for maximal suppressive activity.
