Target Information
TAOK1 (TAO kinase 1) is a serine/threonine-protein kinase involved in the regulation of the p38-containing stress-responsive MAP kinase pathway and extracellular signal-regulated protein kinase (ERK) kinases (MEKs).
It activates and binds to MEK3, implicating TAOK1 in the regulation of the p38 MAPK pathway. TAOK1 (also known as MARKK) is a microtubule affinity-regulating kinase that plays a key role in mitotic progression, chromosome congression, and checkpoint-induced anaphase delay.
Biological functions:
- Regulates p38/MAPK14 stress-activated MAPK cascade
- Participates in DNA damage response and cytoskeleton stability regulation
- Phosphorylates MAP2K3, MAP2K6, and MARK2
- Acts as an activator of the p38/MAPK cascade via MAP2K3 and MAP2K6 phosphorylation
- Involved in G-protein coupled receptor signaling to p38/MAPK14
- Functions in G2/M transition DNA damage checkpoint activation
