Target Information
The hnRNP K gene belongs to the subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs), which are RNA-binding proteins that complex with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA). These proteins associate with pre-mRNAs in the nucleus and influence pre-mRNA processing, mRNA metabolism, and transport.
While most hnRNPs reside in the nucleus, some shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm. hnRNP K contains three KH RNA-binding domains and preferentially binds to poly(C) sequences. It also plays a role in cell cycle progression. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants exist, though not all are fully characterized.
